In situations where the tooth is too badly infected or the position of the tooth is too unfavorable and may predispose to infections/trauma in the future, it may advisable to extract the offending tooth. The 3rd molar(wisdom teeth) are frequent candidates for extraction. Therapeutic extractions may be necessary, as a space gaining method, prior to Orthodontic therapy in certain patients. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, but in certain special cases these procedures can be conducted under general anesthesia based upon the patients request.
